Link Between Oral And Mental Health

At Green Dentistry, we follow a holistic approach to dental care and believe the mouth, mind, and body are all connected. We do not believe the mouth should be treated as a separate entity, because it is not. Changes and feelings that are happening in your body and mind can greatly affect the state of your oral health. We often discuss the challenges that can come from certain medical conditions, but what is the link to oral and mental health?

What Is Restorative Dentistry?

Are you or a loved one experiencing severe decay, missing teeth, or unexplained pain in your mouth? If so, you may be in need of a restorative dentistry treatment. Restorative dentistry is any treatment that repairs and improves the function of a damaged tooth. I believe in exploring your needs and creating a plan that not only repairs your teeth, but also helps encourage lifelong health. If you have been experiencing issues with your oral health and find yourself avoiding your favorite foods, not smiling, and often in discomfort, I can help you. Read on to learn more about the many benefits restorative dentistry can provide.

Functional Dentistry

At Green Dentistry, we are passionate about not only the state of your oral health, but your overall health as well. As a holistic dental practice, we believe in functional dentistry and getting to the root of a problem instead of just treating an issue and sending you on your way. For example, if we have a patient who is regularly experiencing decay, we are of course going to treat the problem at hand, but we are also going to become detectives to try and understand what may be causing the decay. Too many times, problems are given a quick solution without finding the root of the problem, only for the same problem to come back again and again.

It’s OK To Be Nervous

Are you postponing an upcoming hygiene examination or recommended treatment due to nerves, or are you nervous about an upcoming scheduled treatment? Believe me, I totally get how you feel. You may be surprised to learn that even I experience nerves before I visit the dentist. I want you to know that your feelings are valid, but receiving dental care is also important for your overall health. Being a dentist who practices holistic and green dentistry, I want to share some natural ways that I try to ensure my patients feel comfortable while in my office. Read on to learn more.

You Could Be Suffering From This Common Affliction And Not Even Know It!

Do you often wake with headaches or experience frequent bouts of jaw tenderness? If so, you may be experiencing a common condition that can affect both the teeth and jaw. Many patients suffer from this condition and are living with it, totally unaware. Over time, this condition can cause serious damage to the state of your oral health. Importance Of Replacing Missing Teeth

Experiencing tooth loss can bring about a number of emotions for patients. Some patients feel upset and traumatized, while others feel anger over the state of their oral health. There are a number of reasons that patients may experience tooth loss, such as trauma to the mouth, side effects of medication or a medical condition, severe decay, and family history. At Green Dentistry, one of the ways we assist our patients is to help them choose a tooth replacement option as soon as possible to restore their oral health. Patients with prolonged tooth loss or who have experienced tooth loss in one of the rear molars often question if a replacement is truly necessary, and our response is — always.

A Special Test Just For You

For years, using saliva has been common practice in the medical field. For example, paternity tests and looking for a match for treatments such as stem cell transplants use saliva testing. Over the past few years, the idea of using saliva to discover important information such as your heritage and genealogy as well as learning more about allergies and food sensitivities has really taken hold. We can now use these same testing concepts to learn more about your oral and overall health. I have recently introduced Oral Microbiome Testing in the office. What May Be Causing Your Jaw Discomfort

At Green Dentistry, we want patients to live their best lives. If you are constantly in a state of discomfort, suffer from regular headaches, experience tension or clicking in your jaw, you are not living your best life. In fact, you may be suffering from a common condition known as temporomandibular joint disorder, also referred to as TMD. TMD is any pain or discomfort in the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jawbone to the skull, or the surrounding muscles. Patients who remain untreated live in a constant state of discomfort, are not able to fully open their jaws, and have to limit their diets. Dr. Patel is not only able to diagnose TMD, she is also able to offer life changing treatments.
