All-On-4® Implant Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures vs. Removable Implant-Supported Dentures

Here’s how All-On-4® implant dentures stack up compared to traditional dentures or implant-supported removable dentures:

Traditional Dentures

  • Have artificial teeth and gums that are placed over the top of the gums
  • Must be removed and cleaned
  • Can slip or slide out of the mouth if not using a denture adhesive
  • Can cause pain and mouth sores
  • Allow bone loss to continue
  • Are the least expensive option for complete tooth loss
  • Do not require surgery
  • Can create whistling, grinding, or clicking noises

Implant-Supported Dentures

  • Have artificial teeth that attach to hardware implanted into the gums and underlying bone
  • Are sometimes called “snap-on dentures”
  • Must be removed and cleaned
  • Offer more stability than traditional dentures
  • May need to be replaced over time
  • May not be covered by dental insurance
  • Require surgical implants to be placed
  • Can create whistling, grinding, or clicking noises

All-On-4® Dental Implants

  • Have artificial teeth and gums that are anchored to hardware implanted into the gums and underlying bone
  • Are permanent and not taken out of the mouth
  • Are considered the gold standard for complete tooth loss
  • Do not need replacement
  • May not be covered by dental insurance
  • Require surgical implants to be placed
  • Do not make clicking or grinding noises

All on 4 Dental Implants FAQ

The All-On-4® implant denture system allows for a complete temporary arch to be installed the same day as your implants. Once the surgical implants have healed, a custom-made arch will replace the temporary arch. This means you can have your new teeth in as little as one day, and you don’t have to leave our office without teeth!

As long as you are in good health, age should not be a factor in using the All On 4® implant denture system.

You should brush and floss your new dentures similar to the way you would brush and floss your own natural teeth. Before you leave our office, we’ll show you how to properly take care of your cosmetic arches and keep them clean.

If you’ve been missing teeth for an extended period of time, you may need a bone graft to allow your natural jawbone to support your dental implants. However, bone grafts are much less frequently required when placing All-On-4® implant dentures than when placing traditional dental implants.
