A Special Test Just For You
For years, using saliva has been common practice in the medical field. For example, paternity tests and looking for a match for treatments such as stem cell transplants use saliva testing. Over the past few years, the idea of using saliva to discover important information such as your heritage and genealogy as well as learning more about allergies and food sensitivities has really taken hold. We can now use these same testing concepts to learn more about your oral and overall health. I have recently introduced Oral Microbiome Testing in the office. What is Oral Microbiome Testing?
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could learn what oral and overall health concerns you may experience in your lifetime? I can now assist you with this! As you most likely know, I care greatly about not only the state of my patient’s oral health, but about their overall health as well. Being a holistic dentist, I like to explore why patients may be experiencing certain issues and help remedy these problems. Oral Microbiome Testing uses saliva to check for certain dental risk factors such as gum disease and tooth decay. The results don’t end there. The testing can also identify if you are at increased risk of developing health issues such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, oral cancer, pregnancy complications and inflammation.
How Oral Microbiome Testing Benefits You
When I see the results of your Oral Microbiome Testing, I know what harmful bacteria are present in your mouth. I can adjust your treatment plan to accommodate potential problems. One example is gum disease. Gum disease can be difficult to diagnose early because it doesn’t always have clearly visible warning signs like tooth decay does. Knowing that a patient already has that bacteria present allows me to detect the condition very early and start treatment to avert the severe damage that could be caused by a later diagnosis.
