How to Naturally Control Acid Reflux (Video)
Hi, this is Dr. Nammy, and I wanted to share today a little bit about how you can naturally really control acid reflux. Acid reflux is really concerning. When patients have acid reflux, a lot of the acid that’s in the belly is coming up, so when it’s coming up in the mouth, it’s causing two things. Actually, several things, not just two things.
Acid Reflux Causes Bad Breath, Cavities, and Gum Disease
One is called bad breath, and nobody really likes that,` because the mouth, it has that acidity from the belly that shouldn’t be there. The second is cavities, because the acid actually dissolves the natural tooth structure, so it’ll be decay on the teeth.
And then also, gum disease. There’s actually species of bacteria that are in your belly that should not be in your mouth, and when they get up in your mouth, they actually eat away the bone and cause gum disease, so that is what we’re looking at when it comes to acid reflux.
How to Reduce Acid Reflux
Of course you’re going to brush and floss and things like that. Those are some natural things that we need to do. A couple of things that you can do at home that are going to be really, really, really useful: what I usually recommend is in the morning, the first thing you do is get eight ounces of water or warm water and put in about two or three drops of lemon juice and take that water, put a straw in it, and drink it.
Lemon Water
Lemon water is so great for your stomach. It is alkaline. Now, lemon water in your mouth is very acidic and it’ll cause you cavities, so you must use a straw, so that way you get the benefits of the alkalinity in your body and you’re not risking any cavities or gum disease, so super important for you to be able to do that.
Again, eight ounces of water, and warm water is really great. Couple drops of lemon or lemon juice, and then drink it through a straw. I highly recommend that in the morning, first thing in the morning as you wake up, and then at night before you go to sleep. It’s a really wonderful way for your body to alkalize itself.
Intermittent Fasting
Now, several other things that are really helpful with acid reflux is intermittent fasting, so not eating after 7:00 PM is really great, and doing a 16-hour fast. When there’s not food in the belly, it’s not having to produce any extra acids, and it’s a great way for your body to equilibrate, so I highly recommend intermittent fasting.
Swedish Bitters
Now, the third thing that’s really great with acid reflux is actually there is a product called Swedish Bitters, and you can take that about 30 minutes before you start eating, or you can take it while you’re eating, and it’s really, really, really, really great, because what that does, it just gets your stomach to be ready for the food, and so that way you won’t have overgrowth of acidity or too much acidity where it’s backing up.
It’s going to help you digest your food much better, especially if you have some food allergies or anything like that, so it makes it much more comfortable for your body to process the food and avoid any sort of acid reflux, so highly recommend those things. Hot water with lemon in the morning and at night. Intermittent fasting is fantastic. And also Swedish Bitters, and you can pick those up super easily on Amazon.
Probiotics
There is one more product that I do recommend, as well: probiotics. Pre and probiotics are really wonderful, as well, in order to help with our gut and to make sure that we’re getting healthy gut bacteria and not creating so much acid, as well. Those would be the things I recommend for acid reflux. Those are some great products, easy to do, and really wonderful. All right, this is Dr. Nammy. Thank you.
