Dr. Nammy Patel, founder of Green Dentistry in San Francisco, and author of the bestselling book Age With Style — A Guide to a Youthful Smile and Healthy Living, discusses how to improve your nasal breathing.
So nasal breathing’s super important because that’s how we activate nitric oxide. And what is really common that I see is a lot of people breathe through their mouth. And the reason for that is because their noses are congested. The condition can come from many things. Sometimes it’s the environment, so it could be dry. If that’s the case, I recommend using some castor oil. You can just rub it, put it on a Q-tip, you can put it on the insides of the nostril, and then you’re going to be able to breathe throughout the night.
The other thing that also happens is a lot of food allergies, that actually ends up congesting a lot of patients. So, you know, gluten allergy is very common. Wheat allergy is really common. Dairy allergy is really common. So eliminating those foods is really key. It’s not really that you can have less of it. It’s really you can have none of it. That is a way that you’re going to be able to get nasal breathing. The other things are really great. It’s like a neti pot, so that way you’re able to clean the nose and make sure that you’re getting breathing better that way.
