Mercury Free Dentistry (Video)
Hello, friends. Today, let’s talk about mercury-free dentistry.
What is mercury-free dentistry? Mercury-free dentistry means that we do not place any amalgam silver fillings in your mouth. And most importantly, if we are removing mercury out of your mouth, we’re doing it safely. We’re doing it in a way that you are not exposed to mercury vapor.
Now, you’re probably wondering, what is mercury? Mercury is an amalgam filling. It’s a silver filling. And now that mercury is bonded to silver, tin, and a lot of these other things together, aka amalgamated together, and they’re placed in the mouth as a restorative material. Now, these used to be placed a lot in the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties. They’re phasing out more and more, which is wonderful, and I’m so happy to hear that.
Now, for you, if you have them, it’s very important that you remove them safely. You can’t just remove the silver filling because when the dentist drills, it creates a lot of mercury vapor, and now that vapor can be very toxic for you. So it’s very important that the tooth is isolated and it’s chunked down so you’re not having as much drilling during the process, as well as making sure you have protection around your body, around what you’re breathing, and also the team, whoever is working on you, making sure they have some support around that as well. Because we not only want to keep you safe from mercury, we want to keep ourselves too, or your providers.
And so those are some things that you can look at from mercury-free dentistry, and I would invite you to give us a call and see if you have any questions and we can help you from there.
