Dr. Nammy’s Opinion on Fluoride (Video)
Hi, this is Dr. Nammy again. I am delighted to be here with you and I am delighted to share with you my opinion about fluoride.
What Is Fluoride?
Fluoride is an ion that exists in our foods, it exists in the atmosphere, it exists all around us. And there has been so much controversy around the use of fluoride and the main reason is the last hundred, 200 years, what has happened is that people were given fluoride pills if they were in rural areas and they were not getting fluoride in the water.
And so what happened is that the fluoride was getting into people’s bones or children’s bones, and what that did is cause brittle bones and cause a lot of problems for a lot of people. And so it has a really bad negative association with fluoride, and that is one of the reasons why patients do not like it.
When Is Fluoride Beneficial?
So having said that, what we have found is that when fluoride is used in a specific manner, so if it’s only used on the teeth, it actually is very beneficial. So what I just described to you was when fluoride was used as a pill, so there was too much fluoride. And now if you take too much fluoride or you take too much of anything, it’s going to cause a problem.
And that’s what’s occurred, is that too much fluoride is not good for you just like too much sugar is not good for you, just like too much calcium is not good for you. When things are taken in excess and in the wrong amounts, it can cause detrimental effects for our body. So the science has shown that if we are able to isolate the fluoride just on the teeth, because what it does on the teeth is it takes the calcium crystal and replaces it with the fluoride crystal, so that makes a really nice, tight, tight bond.
How Fluoride Helps Reduce Cavities
And the reason we want that bond is because then you don’t get cavities. So for patients who are high cavities prone, it is a great solution. The key is that it has to be used properly. So in my practice, the way we utilize fluoride is in the office and it’s highly controlled, which means I use a little paintbrush and I have a suction tip.
And the fluoride actually only goes on the teeth and not onto your gum tissues, nor into your saliva so that you’re not ingesting anything into your body. So that’s what we’re able to do is safely give you the benefits of fluoride without causing brittle bones, without causing any sort of problems for the rest of the body. And that is the key to any ingredient, whether it be sugar, whether it be fluoride, whether it be calcium pills or whether it be anything else.
How to Enjoy the Benefits, Without the Risks
The key that I want you to take away is really that moderation is really important and the delivery process is really important and the way you utilize something is really important. So what we’ve done is being able to utilize the benefits of fluoride and mitigate all the risks so that way we’re able to help you keep your natural teeth, we’re able to avoid any diseases, we’re able to allow you to age gracefully and not have any concerns.
And that’s really what we’re looking for is that we want you to be very comfortable. We also want you to get the benefits. We want you to mitigate the risks and the toxins. That’s what we don’t want, but we do want the good parts about it. So if we put it just on the teeth, we’re able to get great results and not have any problems with it.
And so that’s my honest opinion about fluoride and I want to be authentic with you and honest with you and share with you what I actually do so that you can get a better idea. If this resonates for you, fantastic. If you’re absolutely like, “No fluoride,” I understand and I respect you. And I just like to look at the processes and I like to look at why do we do something and if we can look at the root cause, we can, again, take all the benefits and mitigate all the risks. And that’s really what my goal was for you.
