Dr. Nammy Patel talks about natural ways to help prevent and cure gum disease, including brushing with an electric toothbrush, using a Waterpik, and oil pulling.
The best and most natural way to help with gum disease is using an electric toothbrush, really making sure the electric toothbrush hits the teeth with 50,000 pulsations per minute, so you’re cleaning that up.
The other thing is using a Waterpik. A Waterpik is really great because it’s squirts water in between the teeth and gets rid of the bacteria. What I like even more is taking the Waterpik and putting a tablespoon of peroxide in eight ounces of water. When you’re able to do that, you can squirt the water in between the teeth and it kills off any bacteria that’s bad, because the peroxide has oxygen in it. So oxygen really kills off any bad bugs because good bugs tend to survive in oxygen.
The other thing that’s really helpful is oil pulling, and my favorite, actually, is to use sesame oil versus coconut oil. It’s more cost-effective and it works really well, and it makes your gums a lot stronger. So those would be the things I’d recommend.
