Summary
In this video, Dr. Nammy explains how pinhole gum surgery works. This natural rejuvenation process involves inserting collagen into pinholes in your gums. Then, the collagen rejuvenates your gums.
Pinhole Gum Surgery (Video)
Hi, this is Dr. Nammy, and I am delighted to share with you today about pinhole gum surgery, or we call it pinhole gum rejuvenation. So the process of pinhole is that we are looking for a long-term solution for when the gum tissue is receded.
Causes of Gum Recession
So what that means is that the gum tissue is… If this was a tooth and this was a gum, the gum has gone down and it’s gone down for several reasons. One, if you’re brushing too aggressively, number two could be because you’re grinding your teeth at night, or number three, it could just be the positioning of your teeth or something is going on.
For example, if you had braces when you were younger, the brackets were a little too low, you’ll have gum recession from that, or it could just be from aging. So there are many reasons for having gum recession.

So what we like to do is find a permanent solution for that, and the best way that we can do that naturally is to do something called pinhole gum rejuvenation. What pinhole is is we make two little small pinholes, and what we do is we reflect the tissue and stuff it with collagen.
So collagen is really great because collagen is what our skin is made out of, and collagen is going to actually allow us or give us the raw materials so that we can make new gum tissue. So for example, the pinhole is made, we put the collagen inside, and we leave the area alone for about six weeks. You don’t brush your teeth. Yes, that’s true. You don’t brush your teeth. And we want you to do that purposefully.
The reason is when you’re not brushing your teeth, the collagen is there as a raw material, but there’s a lot of bacteria there. So what your body is going to do is fight the bacteria. As it fights the bacteria, it’s going to take that collagen and use it to make new gum tissue. So the gum tissue is more resilient, it’s stronger, it’s longer lasting, and it’s really comfortable.
There are no sutures involved in pinhole gum surgery or pinhole gum rejuvenation. It really takes about, I would say, if we’re going to do the full mouth, maybe two hours or so. So it’s a really wonderful product. It’s a wonderful way in order to help with gum recession and really avoid that sensitivity.
And sometimes we also want to bring our gum tissues down because it makes us look younger, which is a great way to be able to do that as well. The beauty of pinhole gum rejuvenation is that it is natural, it is noninvasive, and it’s long-lasting. And that’s the main reason why I love doing the procedure myself.
