In this video, Dr. Nammy Patel outlines her innovative dental approach that goes beyond traditional treatments by targeting the root causes of both oral and systemic issues. She emphasizes the crucial roles of a healthy microbiome and proper nose breathing—which aids in nitric oxide production—in preventing serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and more. Highlighting a patient case, she demonstrates how correcting airway constriction and improving tongue positioning can restore energy levels, reduce gum recession, and prevent further dental damage. Ultimately, her preventative strategy not only enhances dental health but also supports overall well-being.
Dr. Nammy Patel: Hi, it’s Dr. Nammy again, and today I want to share with you a little bit about some treatments that we do in our practice that help patients live longer, fight disease and dysfunction, help with grinding and also avoid gum recessions and gum disease, which is all of dentistry, pretty much. The reason I love talking about this is because we look at root causes and really looking at root causes really allows us to be real doctors.
The Origin Of Many Diseases
We used to think disease was belly up, but it’s actually this way down. And dentistry is really important in two ways. One is that your microbiome, really making sure that you have good, healthy bacteria because otherwise they lead to a heart attack, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and arthritis.
The Importance of Breathing Through the Nose
The second is nose breathing, mainly making sure that you’re able to breathe through your nose so you can actually create this molecule called nitric oxide. Now, nitric oxide is really critical because it helps fight heart attack, diabetes, cancer, and all that bad stuff. Now what’s happened is in life throughout evolution, a couple of things have occurred where we’ve had braces.
So, patients have had braces, what happens is their sinus cavities get constricted as well as their windpipe. Or if children are not breastfed, their tongue is not developed properly. So a lot of those things have a massive impact on your overall well-being. So, I wanted to share some results with you about a few patients who came to me. And these are some befores and afters.
The Impact of Braces On Your Airway
This is the person who came to me, braces, beautiful woman. I had braces in the past, but just really trouble feeling energetic and really feeling like had the energy to do no things in life. And this is a 35-year-old, so that’s pretty young to feel tired. So, the other thing is she’d always have massive gum recession, gum sensitivity, teeth were breaking left and just really didn’t know what to do.
And most dentists would give her a night guard and say, “See you later.” But she was like, “I know there’s something else going on because I can feel it.” And she was on point. So, when she first came to me in 2021, we did an analysis. And here. What we find in her analysis here is, look, her tongue doesn’t have enough space so the tongue does not rest at the roof of the palate like it should. And look at this right here. The tongue has no space, and her windpipe is super small because of it. And so, I shared with her how this stuff happens and what we could do about it.
Results of the Treatment of Airway Issues
And then, so we did some treatment on her, and this is what she looks like. Look at her windpipe from here to here. Oh my goodness. Her tongue position. Again, tongue position, there was all this black space, which is now completely gone, which means that if there’s black space, her tongue is going to be like this. If there’s no space, her tongue is like this, which is what we want, and that’s what she’s got over here. Super happy with the results and super delighted to get the results that she desired. See how there’s tongue space? See how there’s no tongue space? So she has a latch.
So, what we’ve done for her is help prevent disease and dysfunction down the road. Number one, it would’ve given her more energy, which she really wanted right now. She stopped breaking her teeth, she stopped getting gum recession, and now she just comes in for routine dental care, which is really awesome without a tooth breaking off here and there, and then grinding and things like that.
So, our goal here is really to be preventative in any sort of disease and dysfunction and really optimization beyond teeth, right? We want to look at beyond teeth and into overall health.
And that’s where we’re doing here, making sure her microbiome is super healthy, making sure that she’s nose breathing so that she’s set up for life to help prevent any sort of diseases or dysfunction. And most importantly, save a lot of money, not have to worry about teeth breaking and gum recession and all sorts of problems like that. So this was a fun case to share. So I am delighted to be able to share this with you and just show you some really great outcomes in such a short period of time that we can take for you. Awesome. Thank you.
