Dr. Nammy Patel, founder of Green Dentistry in San Francisco, and author of the bestselling book Age With Style— A Guide to a Youthful Smile and Healthy Living, discusses your jaw and headaches.
So headaches are caused because a lot of times when we’re clenching, grinding, or if there … We have a jaw joint here, and so our head is basically held together by our jaw, and if our jaw joint is off, if it’s not straight, what can happen is you can get tension headaches because on one side … Imagine walking and having one heel broken. That would be painful, right? You can’t walk a mile on that.
And we’re chewing all the time, we’re using our mouths all the time to speak, like we’re doing right now, so what happens is that it kind of wears one area out and it can cause a lot of tension headaches. So one of the things that we do in our practice, is we test for that. So we test the jaw joint to see if a device is necessary in order to heal the jaw and the jaw joint.
